CERN Gold Award for GS Swiss PCB AG
On the 22nd of April 2008, Dr. Frank Bose, CEO and Ulrich Feisst, CFO received the CMS Gold Award on behalf of GS Swiss PCB AG (formerly GS Präzisions AG) from Prof. F. Pauss and Prof. L. Foa. The CMS Gold award recognizes outstanding contribution towards the construction of the “Compact Muon Solenoid” (CMS) in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN in Geneva.
The LHC is a 27 km long accelerator which was designed to discover the elusive Higgs Bosons. The collider cost over four billion Euros, took over ten years to build and was finally completed in 2008.
A total of 1000 companies have worked for the CMS construction. Since 2000 the CMS Collaboration has honoured companies that have made outstanding contributions to the construction of the experiment with the CMS Industrial Awards: the Gold Award for companies with excellent results in terms of quality and schedule and the Crystal Award for companies who have explored novel technologies and collaborated in R&D programs with CMS.
GS Swiss PCB AG was recognized with the Gold Award for delivering over 75’000 flexible printed circuits on short notice, within budget and on-time in 2007. The circuits have to withstand high radiation as they are placed intimately close to the detection crystals. The reliability is crucial as there is no possibility to exchange parts and the accelerator is expected to run for over 15 years.
GS Swiss PCB AG has further contributed to the end caps and the tracker of CMS as well as various components of the Atlas and Alice experiments and is held in high esteem in the world of high energy physics.
GS Swiss PCB would like to thank Werner Lustermann for the nomination, and the CMS Awards Committee for honouring us. We wish CMS and CERN all the best with the experiments.
